Interfaith’s Mission
Interfaith Community Housing of Delaware, Inc.’s mission is to act as a catalyst to revitalize and strengthen neighborhoods by providing sustainable housing and homeownership services that support low- and moderate-income households, empower residents for leadership, and promote individual and community asset building.
Our Journey Through the Years
Explore the key milestones and achievements of ICHDE since our inception in 1968.
1968
Foundation of ICHDE
ICHDE’s predecessor company, Community Housing, Inc. (CHI) was formed in 1968 to revitalize Wilmington’s riot-torn streets. In the 1980s, CHI was recognized by the Wilmington NAACP for its service to low- to moderate-income families though housing development, neighborhood revitalization, and housing counseling.

1995
Expansion to Kent and Sussex Counties
ICHDE expanded its services to Kent and Sussex counties, broadening our impact across the state of Delaware.

1999
First Chartered NeighborWorks® Organization
ICHDE became the first NeighborWorks America organization in Delaware, in recognition of our commitment to revitalizing our communities and creating opportunities for our residents.

2005
Launch of NeighborWorks Homeownership Center
We opened the first certified NeighborWorks Homeownership Center, providing comprehensive homeownership services and support to Delaware residents.

2024
57 Years of Service
Over the past five decades, ICHDE has developed and rehabilitated over 2,000 affordable housing units across Delaware, established a portfolio of 314 affordable rental units, and as of 2024 has served 17,100 clients through our HomeOwnership Center. Since 2006, the HOC has facilitated the purchase of over 3,600 homes, saved 720 homes from foreclosure, and has provided over 4,500 financial literacy and homebuyers workshops.

HomeOwnership Center
Creating pathways to homeownership, financial security, and generational wealth
The HomeOwnership Center at ICHDE is a vital resource for empowering individuals and families to achieve homeownership and financial stability. Offering a range of services—including housing counseling, foreclosure prevention, financial literacy education, budgeting support, credit repair, and first-time homebuyer workshops—the HOC has been a trusted partner to over 17,000 clients since its founding in 2006 as Delaware’s first NeighborWorks America HomeOwnership Center.

2023
Green Building United Groundbreaker Award
Community Building and Organizing Coordinator, Caren Turner, wins Green Building United 2023 Groundbreaker Award, recognizing Caren’s efforts in advocating for climate change and bringing awareness to the importance of sustainability.
2024
Commitment to Affordable Housing
ICHDE received almost $4,000,000 in funding to advance our affordable housing projects including new affordable housing development, housing counseling, rental housing preservation, and expansion of our youth mentorship program.
2024
NeighborWorks Week
Delaware’s New Castle County and the City of Wilmington issued proclamations that June 1-8, 2024 will be known as NeighborWorks Week.
The official designation recognizes ICHDE’s efforts in community empowerment.
