First-Time Homebuyer Workshop at MSK Community Center
The workshop brought together a knowledgeable group of local professionals who walked attendees through what can feel like an overwhelming process.
Kevin Lowry, Loan Officer with Prosperity Home Mortgage, covered the financing side: mortgage products, what lenders look for, and how to take those first steps toward pre-approval. Realtors Sharon Stewart of EXP Realty and Quinton Gaines of Innovate Real Estate shared what to expect when you’re actually out searching for a home and how to work with a buyer’s agent, navigate offers, and protect yourself through negotiations. Todd Tuvell of A-Pro Home Inspection rounded things out with a practical look at the home inspection process and what buyers should know before they sign anything.
The workshop’s most personal moment came from City Councilwoman Yolanda McCoy of Wilmington’s 6th District, who joined us as a special guest. Just about 20 years ago, she was in the audience’s shoes in a First-Time Homebuyer class. Councilwoman McCoy shared her own experience purchasing her first home with ICHDE’s support. It was a reminder that homeownership is possible and that having the right guidance makes all the difference.
If you attended the workshop and are ready to take your next step, our HomeOwnership Center counselors are here to help.
