The ICHDE team is proud and humbled to share that our federal sponsor organization, NeighborWorks America, has highlighted our current youth mentorship program in a new feature article, “The Ripple Effect: How youth programs strengthen neighborhoods.”
The article, published on September 19, 2025, lifts up the everyday, relationship-based work our staff and partners do with Wilmington’s inner-city youth. Our program work blends academics, health and wellness, leadership development, substance-use prevention, and real one-to-one mentorship. Led by ICHDE’s LaTaysha Harmon and Wilmington Police Dept’s Corporal Daniel Wilson, the program is reaching out to at-risk youth and supporting them to create tangible benefits in their lives, families, and community.
As the NeighborWorks article notes, what changes outcomes isn’t just the program’s activities. It’s the trust, consistency, and accountability built between our young people and caring adults. That’s the heart of our approach in ICHDE’s Community Building & Engagement team: helping youth grow as students, neighbors, and leaders, while strengthening families and blocks across Wilmington.
We’re deeply grateful to NeighborWorks America for their generous recognition and for their continued partnership in building stronger, healthier communities.
